The Sequel

While waiting for the released of Cupid's Target I decided to write another novel related to Clint and Elise. I also hope I could make it a yearly habit to write a story that's part of The Chronicles of Cupid. But it seems Danny's story is the end of this...

The Inspiration

You can dance, every dance with the guy
Who gives you the eye,let him hold you tight
You can smile, every smile for the man
Who held your hand neath the pale moon light
But don't forget who's takin' you home
And in whose arms you're gonna be
So darlin' save the last dance for me...

Michael Bublé made me fall in love with the song and it's his version I was listening to while plotting Cupid's Trick. "The Man Who Can't Be Moved" by The Script also inspired me to write Cupid's Arrow. "Prettiest Friend" by Jason Mraz also helps. Then, "Creep" by Radiohead was my song for Hugo's point of view as I write Cupid's Target.

I am thankful for every human being who could compose a great song. Songs are often my source for inspirations.

The Quote

Psyche did not fall in love with a horrible wretch, she did not fall in love at all. Still more strange, no one fell in love with her. Men were content to look and wonder and worshipand then pass on to marry someone else.

The above text was quoted from Mythology by Edith Hamilton. The love story of Cupid and Psyche was the reason why I bought the said book as reference. But after my two novels, Cupid’s Trick and Cupid’s Arrow, are already published my friend insisted I read a book that retells the story of Cupid and Psyche. During that time my interest with Cupid subside somehow so I'm not really interested in reading the book she's suggesting. But then, after reading the book entitled Cupid it made me appreciate more the books I had written. It made me laughed and I was mesmerized on how Julius Lester tells a story and shares his comments and personal views while doing so.

During high school I remembered our teacher asking us to read and discuss a mythology story. Most of us are confuse. We were wondering how we're going to discuss a story that we're reading and couldn't understand in the first place. I think a lot of us couldn't grasp the idea that there are other gods and goddesses. Luckily, our teacher was kind enough to explain each paragraph. But still, I wasn't hook with mythology then. Actually, I was never a fan of Greek mythology until after reading and writing about it.

The Beginning

Once upon a time there was a girl who, despite being rejected a few times by an editor, keeps on writing, and writing, and writing. Until finally, she was able to published her own story with a happy ending.

I wish I could tell the beginning of my writing career as simple as that. But I couldn't so here goes.

I started writing Cupid's Trick during the time I already received the well-known e-mail letter that starts with... "Ikinalulungkot po naming sabihin..." and I think (if I'm not mistaken) I had received it six times before I finally decided to write a new story.

The manuscripts I initially sent was a trilogy. I sent the three manuscripts in one e-mail so I also received the feedback for each book in one e-mail. But I count it as six because after receiving the first batch of feedback I tried revising each story then I sent it again in one e-mail. So there... you do the Math.

After receiving another e-mail I asked myself why my manuscripts were rejected. I even thought of the possible reasons why it wasn't good enough to be published. And until now, whenever I send my manuscript I would tell myself that my story might be rejected. I am not being pessimistic here. It's just that I knew I'm a newbie and there's a big possibility that what I wrote wasn't interesting enough to a lot of people. But what's important for me is that there's a certain person who would read my work and give me the evaluation I needed in order for me to realize what I needed to do.

With these experience I'd say I learned a lot. And I want to keep learning.

Looking back, it felt like I've been on a journey and sometimes it felt like a dream I'm just trying to remember. Then, I'll asked myself if that really happened.
